Staff Achievements

 

International Seminars:

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan presented a paper “Gitaraghava of Ramakavi – a less known work of the Astapadi genre" at the International Sanskrit Conference at  Silpakon University, Bangkok,  June 2005.

 

Dr. T. Unnikrishnan presented a paper “Sruthi and Vaktha in the Advaitic Perspective” on 6th January 2005 in the International Vedanta Congress held at the Andhra University.

 

Dr. S. Muthu participated in “Vaikhanasa Agama Conference” held at Singapore in May 2005. He also spoke on Post Vedic Literature at the Sanskrit Department, Harvard University, USA, in August 2005.

 

National Seminars:

Dr. K. Srinivasan presided over a session at the UGC Seminar on “Yoga and Positive Health Care” conducted by the Dept. of  Sanskrit, University of Madras, during April 2005 and presented a paper on “Yoga in other  Darsanas”.

 

At the two-day national seminar on the “Relevance of Sanskrit in the Modern Age” held at Thiruvaiyaru in connection with the Post-Centenary Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Raja’s College, Dr. K. Srinivasan presided over a session and presented a paper on the same title. Dr. R. Ramachandran presented a paper, “Contribution of Samskrta Bharati”. Dr. S. Muthu presented a paper on “Vaastu in Vaikhanasa Agamas”.

 

At a National Conference on Kalidasa at Kalidasa Academy at Ujjain in November 2005, Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan presented a paper on “Kalidasa”  and another paper “Veethi Nataka of Tamil Nadu and the Sanskrit Theatre” at the National Conference on Indian Theatre at Sagar University, Madhya Pradesh in January 2006. He also chaired a session. 

 

Regional conferences:

Dr. K. Srinivasan spoke on “Kosa Pancaka” during the Madras Sanskrit College Seminar in connection with their Centenary Celebrations.

 

Dr. K. Prasanth presented a paper entitled “Business Ethics in Sanskrit Literature” at T. S. Narayanasamy College of Arts and Science in December 2005.

 

Participation in Seminars and Conferences:

Dr. K. Srinivasan, Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. R. Ramachandran, and Dr. K. Prasanth participated in the International Seminar on “Krti Raksana: Manuscripts and Indian Knowledge Systems” organized by the Departments of Sanskrit and Tamil, University of Madras, in February 2006.

 

Dr. K. Srinivasan and Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan participated in a nine-day National Seminar organized by Madras Sanskrit College in connection with their Centenary Celebrations.

 

Dr. K. Srinivasan was respondent to the paper on “Vaisesika Concept of Samavaya” by Dr. K. E. Dharanidharan in the “National Seminar on Indian Philosophical Heritage: A Re-understanding” organized by Dept. of Philosophy of our College. Dr. T. Unnikrishnan participated as respondent in the same National Seminar on 10th March, 2006.

 

Workshops:

Dr. R. Ramachandran conducted two, “One-Day Workshops on Functional Sanskrit”, one at Aachi‘s College of Arts and Science for Women at Karaikkudi in October 2005 and another at S.D.N.B. College for Women at Chromepet on 3rd December 2005.

 

Dr. R. Ramachandran and Dr. K. Prasanth delivered lectures in the two-day workshop on, “Swami Vivekananda – the Architect of Modern India” organized by the Institute of Vivekananda Studies in March 2006.

 

Resource Personnel:

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan was a Resource Person and delivered two lectures on Kalidasa at the UGC Refresher Course at Sri Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Kaladi, Kerala.

 

Dr. V. Abhiramasundaram was a Resource Person and delivered lectures at the UGC Refresher Course in Sanskrit at S.C.S.V. Mahavidyalaya at Enathur, Kanchipuram.

 

Publications:

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan authored the book, “ Kalidasa – New Perspectives” and the book was released by the Indologist and Former Poland Ambassador to India, Prof. Krystof Maria Bryski during the Kalidasa Samaroh at Kalidasa Academy Ujjain in November 2005.

 

Dr. S. Muthu edited  the books “Snapanas According to Vaikhanasa Agama” in June 2005, and “Asirvada Paddhati” in August 2005.

 

Articles published

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan’s article, “Sri Sankara and the Parakaya Pravesa” was published by the Adi Sankara Vedanta Pratishthan, Orissa (2005).

 

Lesson Writings:

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan has been commissioned by the Institute of Distance Education, University of Madras, to prepare the study materials for Sanskrit.

 

Endowment Lectures:

Dr. K. Srinivasan delivered Sri Anna N. Subramania Iyer Endowment Lecture on “Mundakopanisad” at the Sanskrit College and on “Re-interpretation of Puranas” at Sanskrit Academy, Chennai.

 

Lectures:

Dr. K. Srinivasan spoke on “Puranas” at The Chennai Centre of  S.C.S.V. Mahavidyalaya  and on “The Import of the Eighteenth Chapter of Gita”.

 

Dr. R. Ramachandran spoke on the “Greatness of Sanskrit” during the Sanskrit Day celebrations at the Sanskrit College and at the Numismatic and Epigraphic Club of our college.

 

Dr. S. Muthu spoke on “The Importance of Uttamabrahma Vidya in Vaikhanasa School” at Triplicane. He also gave two different series of ten lectures on “Thiruppavai” and on “Hindu Gods”.

 

VCD:

Dr. S. Muthu brought out VCDs on Thiruppavai and Hindu Gods.

 

Title Conferred :

Dr. R. Ramachandran has been conferred the title “SAMSKRTA RATNA” by Dharmakesari Solar K. S. Subramania Iyer Trust for his service to Sanskrit Education.

 

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

 

Selected for National Workshop

S. Narasimhan (Ph.D.) and G. Guruprasad (M.Phil.) were selected for the Six-Week National Workshop on Manuscripts conducted by the Department of Sanskrit, University of Madras.

 

Research Wing:

K. Mallikeswaran (Guide Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan) has been awarded the Ph.D. degree by the University of Madras and S. Narasimhan (Guide Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan) has submitted his thesis for the award of Ph.D. Two more candidates enrolled themselves for Ph.D. degree. Eleven candidates are pursuing their research programme in the department.

 

E. Muralikrishnan (Guide Dr. R. Ramachandran) was awarded M.Phil. degree. Five candidates (Dr. R. Ramachandran, 2; Dr. Kallay Prasanth, 1; Dr. S. Muthu, 2) submitted their dissertations. Seven candidates enrolled themselves for M. Phil. this year.

 

Dr. C. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. V. Abhiramasundaram, Dr. R. Ramachandran, Dr. K. Prasanth, and Dr. S. Muthu were invited as External Examiners for Research Degrees.

 

SANSKRIT ASSOCIATION:

M. Arunsrivatsan (I M.A.) and S. Vilvesh (III B.A.) are the Secretaries of the Sanskrit Association. The Association was inaugurated by Sri A. V. Rajagopal with a lecture on “Sanskrit in the 21st Century” on 22nd August 2005. On the same day, Sanskrit Day was observed. Training in Sloka recitation was imparted to the students by Dr. R. Ramachandran and Dr. K. Prasanth. The Valedictory Address was delivered by the Principal.

 

 

Endowment Activities

Dr. M. Narasimhachari, an alumnus, former faculty, and Retired Head, Dept. of Vaishnavism, University of Madras, spoke on the Ramayana under Sri P.S. Subramania Sastri Endowment on 24th March 2006.

 

Sri D. K. Hari, M.B.A. (Secretary, Hindu Mission Hospital) made a power point presentation on “The Descent of the Ganges” under Prof. S. Viswanathan Endowment on 27th March 2006.
