THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

Our college has always been a force to reckon with in the Inter-Collegiate and Madras University tournaments,

Our College Cricket Team won the following tournaments:

· Madras University South Division .

· Swami Vivekananda Inter-Collegiate cricket tournament

• IIT Sanmar Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament.
• Buck Memorial Trophy of YMCA College of Physical Education.
• “The most disciplined cricket team award” in Shri Bhagawan Jain college tournament held at Bangalore.

Second Position :

q All India Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament at Bangalore.

q The following students represented the Madras University Team: Suresh, Vijay, Abdul Malik, and Aditya Ganesh

Abdul Malik, M. Vijay, Yo Mahesh, Guru Kedarnath, Adithya Ganesh, Martin Sanjeeev, Murali, . Karthi, S. Suresh, A. K. Suresh and Anirudh Srikanth represented the Madras University, South Zone and All India & TNCA under 19 and 25 Tournaments.

Anirudha Srikanth and Yo Mahesh Played played for India Under 19 team against Australia at Mohali.

Yo Mahesh was a member of the Indian Junior World Cup Team that played at Srilanka and captured 10 wickets .

The following students represented the Ranji Trophy Team for Tamilnadu: M.Vijay, Yo Mahesh, S.Anirudha, and V.R.S.Guru Kedharnath.

Indian university:

For the first time in the Madras University and the history of the Vivekananda College, S. Suresh Kumar of III B.Com. was selected for the Indian University cricket team.

Chess:

• Got 1^st, 3^rd and 5^th place in b-zone men’s tournament .
• Inter-zone 7^th and 9^th rank.

Tennis:

· b-zone runners up

Kho-kho:

· For the first time in Viveka history Runners-Up in Open District Level Tournament.

· B-zone men winners at MUC Grounds.

· Winners in Senior State Tournament at Palacode Kerala. The following students represented Tamilnadu Kho-kho team: Sridhar, Siva Vignesh, Vairan, and Rajesh.

Rajesh and Shiva Vignesh Nandakumar were members of the Madras University team.

Table Tennis:

q Winners in b-zone men tournament at Vaishnav College.

Weight Lifting and Power Lifting competition:

• 125 category 2^nd place Madras University team – S.Sundarraman.

Hockey:

• For the second time in succession the Hockey Team entered inter-zone.

Boxing: G.Theyagarajan & Harikrishnan stood second in the Madras University south division.

Basketball: 5 players represented the zonal team.

Kabbadi: Guru of History Dept was selected for Madras University inter division under 19 team.

Shuttle: Sriram represented the Madras University zone team.

Ball Badminton:

• District tournament runners at ICF grounds.
• Kathiravan and Gopi represented Tamil Nadu in the Senior National Ball Badminton tournament held at Andhra Pradesh.
• Balasubramanian and Kathiravan represented the Madras University.
• B-zone men runners up.

Volley Ball:

· M.Ganeshan represented the zonal team.

Foot Ball:

· M.Dhamodharan and Chandresh got selected for inter zonal team.

Athletics:

· D.Saravanan stood first in the B-Zone athletic men meet .

STAFF EVENTS:

• Our college Cricket Team entered the semi-finals of the Bhuhari, New-College Staff Tournament. Mr.Balaji was adjudged Man of the Match.
• Prof. K. S. Kannan and Prof. M. Balaji were runners up in the Tennis Tournament conducted by the Gurunanak College.
• The Physical Director Mr. Pon. Anbarasu went to Amritsar (Punjab) as a Coach-cum-Manager of the Madras University Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Best Physique team and he was the coach for the Madras University hockey team.

Pon Anbarasu officiated in International Tournament (A.T. Chennai Open) during January 2006.
