NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

· The activities of NSS for the year 2005-06 began in April (11^th to 13^th) and May (15^th to 17^th) 2005 with Polio Immunisation Camp. 30 volunteers participated in the Polio Camp conducted at the Govt. Hospital, Royapettah, Chennai.

· NSS Orientation Programme was conducted on 10-8-2005 for the first year students.All the five NSS Programme Officers co-ordinated the programme.

· 85 volunteers represented our College in the Independence Day Rehearsal and Celebration organized by the Govt. of Tamilnadu. Prof. G. Sornamuthuraj co-ordinated the programme from 13-8-05 to 15-8-05.

· All the five Programme Officers attended a One-day Workshop on the Formation of Red Ribbon Club in the Colleges on 20-8-05 at University of Madras.

· 52 volunteers participated in the Human Chain Programme on 20-8-05 organised by the NSS, University of Madras for Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy.

· 50 Volunteers participated in Cycle Rally from Gandhi Statue to Gandhi Mandapam on October 2, 2005. Dr. S. N. Sugumar and Prof. C. Venu co-ordinated the programme.

· 5 volunteers participated in a Two-day programme on Personality Development in the Pachaiyappa’s College on 13-10-2005 and 140-10-2005.

· 50 volunteers of our college were taken to the Tsunami Exhibition-cum-Seminar organised by Anna Universilty on 13-9-05.

· 20 volunteers participated in a Cultural Festival organized by MGR-Janaki College on 10-9-2005 and 11-9-2005.

· 5 volunteers participated in a Two-day programme on Kudal Murugu organized by NSS- University of Madras and Guru Nanak College on 22-10-2005 and 23-10-2005.

· Prof. J. Pugazhenthy, Prof. G. Sornamuthuraj, Dr. S. N. Sugumar and Prof. C. Venu attended a One-day Workshop on Social Entrepreneurship organized by M.O.P. Vaishnav College on 16-12-2005.

· Prof.J.Pughazhenthy received the CAPACS Award fromCommissioner.Corporation of Chennai for achieving the largerst number of units of blood donated by the students and staff of the college on 1-12-2005.

· 20 volunteers participated in a One-day Workshop on 8-12-2005 at Vertinary College,Vepery on Youth and Communal Harmony.

· Dr. K. M. Babuji and 10 volunteers participated in a One-day Seminar on “Youth-related problems and remedies” Organized by M.O.P.Vaishnav College on 6-1-06.

· A preliminary meeting on Blood Donation was held in our college on 10-1-06.

• Dr. V. V. Subramanian inaugurated the programme Dr. Balasubramanian from V.H.S Adyar addressed the gathering. A similar programme was conducted in the Evening College. Swami Satyapriyananda inaugurated the programme. Dr.Rajkumar addressed the gathering.
• 10 volunteers participated in a Two-day programme on Consumer Awareness in Pachaiyappa’s on 20-1-06 and 21-1-06.
• Free Eye Camp was conducted in association with Share Vision Trust for three days and 2600 students and staff were benefited.
• 25 volunteers attended the University Job Fair for two days on 18-2-06 and 19-2-06 organised by Dr.Susila Mariappan, Director Career Guidance, University of Madras.
• “Anti-Tobacco Campaign” was conducted in University of Madras on 1-3-06. Prof. J. Pugazhenthy and 20 volunteers participated.
• Prof. J. Pughazhenthy and Prof. C. Venu participated in the inauguration of Traffic Regulation on 1-3-06. Police Commissioner Thiru Nataraj inaugurated the programme.
• Red Flag Movement was conducted from 1^st March to 8^th March, 2006. 20 NSS volunteers regulated the traffic under the guidance of Sri. Palaniappan, Traffic Sub-Inspector, Mylapore.
• Personality Development Programme was conducted on 14-3-06. Swami Satyapriyananda inaugurated the programme. Prof. N. Raja Hussain, Co-ordinator, NSS and RRC addressed the gathering.
• 5 volunteers participated in State-level Leadership Programme at D.G.Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai on 16-3-2006 and 17-3-06.
• 16 volunteers participated in Youth and Communal Harmony Programme on 25-3-06 at Madrasa Higher Secondary School, Anna Salai, Chennai.

J. Karthikeyan, I B.Sc. Mathematics was awarded the First Prize in the State-level Essay Competition conducted by Tamilnadu AIDS Control Society, Chennai-8 in association with the Red Ribbon Club.
