DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
The
College, which was founded in the year 1946, is now in its 60th year
and it is a great occasion for celebration and re-dedication to the cause for
which this institution was established.
The
Inaugural Ceremony of the Year-Long Diamond Jubilee Celebrations was held on 12th
January 2006, the Birthday of Swami Vivekananda and our National Youth
Day. Distinguished and eminent alumni
were present at the inauguration. Dr. M. A. M. Ramasamy, M.P. and
Pro-Chancellor, Annamalai University, presided over the function and Sri T. S.
Narayanaswamy, Chairman, Indian Overseas Bank, and Sri. S. Gurumurthy,
Columnist, addressed the gathering. In the evening, Sri Suki Sivam gave an
inspiring lecture to our students. A few invited lectures, a two-day workshop
under the banner of Institute of Vivekananda Studies, an inter-college
exhibition related to environment, inter-college competition, and an inter-college
Sports and NCC events were held as part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. We
have plans of holding a Music Week, a Drama Week, Dance programmes, and
National Level Seminars in different subjects. We have also decided to
strengthen the Alumni Association.
VISIT OF
DIGNITARIES
Most
Revered Srimath Swami Gitanandaji Maharaj, Vice-President, Ramakrishna Math and
Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, visited our campus on 2nd September
2005 and blessed our staff and students.
Srimath
Swami Gokulanandaji Maharaj (Secretary, Rama-krishna Mission, New Delhi)
visited our campus briefly and addressed the students on 4th October
2005 in the Obul Reddy Auditorium (A/C).
INFRASTRUCTURAL ADDITIONS
Anti-radiation screens were installed on all the 172
computer monitors in our four-computer-labs and office of the Evening College
at a cost of Rs. 3,82,728. This ensured
protection to the computer-users from the ill-effects of prolonged radiation.
During the academic year 2005-2006, the new
examination hall above this prayer hall was provided with Public Address System
in order to facilitate the smooth conducting of examinations.
Internet facility with unlimited usage was made
available to staff and students of the college in both the Commerce-Computer
Laboratory and PG-Computer Laboratory for the students of the Evening College.
A separate
Computer Internet Laboratory with 10 systems and a server has been set up this
year for the benefit of students of the Day College. This facility will enable
the students to browse the net for gaining knowledge.
In the
Computer laboratory of the Commerce Department of the Evening College, a
language laboratory has been set up by installing Renet language laboratory
programme. This can be used at a time by 25 learners. In addition, Authorplus
from Clarity, a self-learning package for English, has also been installed.
A Reverse
Osmosis Plant has been set up in the hostel premises to provide mineral water
to the hostel inmates.
A garden
was laid near Sri Sarawathi Shrine in the hostel campus for providing flowers
for decoration and worship.
Vivekananda
Institute of Algal Technology was inaugurated on 17th April 2006.
The Institute has been given a sizable amount totalling Rs. 3,87,624/- for the
purchase of equipments for its laboratory. A PCR was donated by Niche In Centre
for Regenerative Medicine, Japan.
